Aluko, Awoniyi Extend Reading, Mouscron Goal Droughts; Troost-Ekong Features in Bursaspor’s Away Defeat



Two Nigerian players Sone Aluko and Taiwo Awoniyi extended their goal droughts after firing blanks  in their respective teams matches on Boxing Day.
 
Aluko played all 90 minutes for Reading who lost 2-0 away at Bristol City on Tuesday in the English Football Championship.
 
Jamie Paterson scored the first goal of the encounter in the 68th minute before Lloyd Kelly sealed the win in stoppage time. The win moved Bristol City into second place in the Championship table, eight points adrift Carl Ikeme’s Wolverhampton Wanderers.
 
The game also saw Aluko extend his Reading FC goal drought to nine games on the bounce this season.
 
Aluko who has scored twice in 19 English Championship games this season for Reading last scored for the club in their 4-2 win over Derby County on the 4th of November, 2017.
 
At the KCOM Stadium, Ola Aina made his 23rd start of the season for Hull City who drew goalless at home to Derby County.
 
In Belgium, Taiwo Awoniyi made an assist for 10-man Royal Excel Mouscron in their 4-2 away defeat to league leaders Club Brugge in a Belgian top flight game on Tuesday.
 
The game also saw his goal drought extend to six games this season. The former Nigerian youth international last found the back of the net in Royal Excel Mouscron’s 3-1 loss away to Gent on the 24th of November 2017.
In Turkey, William Troost-Ekong was in action for Bursaspor who lost 1-0 away to Genclerbirligi in the Turkish Cup first leg game on Tuesday. His compatriot, Mikel Agu was not listed in the match day squad.
Petar Skuletic was the match winner for Genclerbirligi. The Serbian striker scored in the 24th minute of the encounter.
