Following the pronouncement by the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, directing all unit commands of the Nigeria police across the country to withdraw security orderlies attached to VIPs in the country, a governorship aspirant and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abia state, Ambassador Chibuike Ukauwa on Thursday morning, warned the IGP against taking such step, saying, that would endanger peace and security of the country.
Speaking to journalists in Umuahia, while reacting to the IGP’s directive, Ukauwa called on President Muhammadu Buhari not to give his approval to the IGP’s directive to withdraw security orderlies attached to politicians.
He advised the police boss to rather relocate to crime-proned areas like Benue, Taraba where thousands of innocent citizens of this country are unjustly killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen than unleashing his incompetence on the people.
He said,” Before he starts withdrawing VIPs’ security orderlies, let him withdraw his own security. I think, the IGP wants to endanger the lives of the people. How can he order for withdrawal of our security when he has failed to provide a secure environment to Nigerians?
‘I’m calling on the IGP to jettison such directive and relocate to Benue and Taraba where many have been killed by herdsmen. He should relocate to those states and quell the nefarious attacks by herdsmen. There are a lot of security issues confronting this nation, he should look into them and handle”.
The governorship hopeful also raised the alarm over threat to his life, accusing the agents of Abia state government of trying to hide under the IGP’s directive to carry out an attack on perceived enemies.
Ukauwa said that the failure of the IGP to jettison the directive would spell doom to the country, calling on the federal government to take more proactive steps in improving the security of the country.
